Menstrual cycle is under the control of the hormones system. After having your period, your hormones system thicken your uterus (womb) lining for about 13 days, preparing a good land for zygote implantation. At day 14th there will be an ovulation, your ovarium release an ovum (egg), if there're sperms at this situation, only one sperm will fertilize your ovum, the result is called zygote. This zygote will become an embryo when it implant to your uterus. After that, in normal condition, you will not get your period, until you give bith, why? because the hormon stops the menstrual cycle, so your uterus lining will be kept for your embryo growth.
