Breakfast is the first meal of the day, usually eaten in the morning. Why is breakfast so important to our body? Breakfast is important because it recharges our blood sugar, giving us energy for starting a day. Breakfast is good for both our physical and mental health.

Researches imply that people who eat a healthy breakfast

  • Get more vitamins and minerals, and save less fat and cholesterol during the day.
  • Can easily concentrate, think clearly, and be more productive throughout the day.
  • There are some theories of the association between eating breakfast and controlling weight. Eating breakfast may reduce hunger later in the day, or that it may cause eaters to choose less-dense foods at later meals. Eating breakfast regularly may simply be an indicator of someone who adopts a low-calorie, low-fat diet.
  • Have lower cholesterol, which can lower the risk of heart disease.

Eating breakfast is necessary for all generation, breakfast is more important for children and adolescents. According to the American Dietetic Association, children who eat breakfast are more likely to have better concentration, problem-solving skills and eye-hand coordination. They may also be more alert and creative, and less likely to miss days of school.

How to make a healthy breakfast ? Choose one item from at least three of the following four food groups:
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Grains : bagels, hot or cold whole-grain cereals, or low-fat bran muffins.
  • Dairy : skim milk, low-fat yogurt cups or low-fat cheeses, such as cottage and natural cheeses.
  • Protein : hard-boiled eggs, peanut butter, lean slices of meat and poultry, or fish, such as tuna or salmon.
